Have you guys seen this article ? I usually don't write about general topics outside of myself on this blog, but this article kinda caught more than my attention. We all have been affected or effected by this disease (HIV/AIDS). What are you doing or have done to effect this issue?
I don't know if people have been paying attention to the Jena 6 case, but I'm beyond amazed at how everything is being handle. Did they really take it this far? Attempted Murder..get the heck out of here.

Aside from being discriminating when choosing sex partners and using condoms when I do the do, I'm not doing anything to prevent the systemic spread of HIV/AIDS. I truly feel that people know what they should and shouldn't do. There's only so much public health officals can do.
To be clear, I think the Jena 6 case is outrageous and the attempted murder charges are ludicrous. I also think (hope) that the lead prosecutor gets investigated and at the minimum get sanctioned i.e. disbarment.
However, cases like this happen all the time in America and get no coverage.
For example, a Virginia woman allowed her son and ~30 of his friends to have a few beers during her son's b-day party at her house. She took their keys and monitored what they were doing. She felt better that she had some control in the house opposed to them getting hurt in the streets.
Neighbors called the cops and she was arrested, charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor (which in most cases results in a fine), convicted, sentenced to 8 years in jail (which was reduced to 27 months).
This is the exact same type of thing. An overzealous prosecutor (and super conservative judge) looking to make a statement and a name for themselves.
Race was certainly an issue in Jena, much more so than in the case I noted, but the point in...it happens.
I'm very supportive of HIV related fund raising events here in Dallas. I also volunteer to help with local educational efforts. But our young people may need a different approach, something sensitive to their budding sexuality.
Whats happening in Jena is very sad. Its hard to believe that even now in 2007 people are still segregating each other. You would think by now, we would as a species learn to a accept each other.
